Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
