NY Launches Reporting Tool for Citizens to Report ICE Images Following Arrests of Four US Citizens

New York state AG has introduced a fresh online portal encouraging locals to share photos and videos of immigration raids throughout New York. This step comes just a day after a significant ICE raid shook NYC's Chinatown, sparking mass demonstrations.

US Citizens Detained In ICE Operation

A US congressman disclosed during a news conference that four US citizens were arrested and held for "almost a full day" after Tuesday's raid. Rallies erupted in the city on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Each citizen deserves to reside free from terror," the attorney general declared in a statement.

"For those who saw and documented federal operations yesterday, I ask you to submit that material with the authorities. We are pledged to examining these accounts and determining any wrongdoings."

Form Details

The platform provides spaces to upload photos and videos of the raid, along with a section to specify geographic details. Prior to sending, users must check a box that confirms that "the office might employ any evidence provided in a official report, such as in a court case or official statement."

Details of the ICE Action

The Chinatown raid, which observers say featured more than 50 ICE personnel, happened in a popular district of the city where imitation purses, items, goods and other goods are regularly available widely – typically to sightseers.

Videos of the incident reveal numerous masked and armed officers restraining and arresting a person, and pushing back bystanders. Crowds of New Yorkers pursued the personnel along the roads. An military-style transport was observed rolling through the urban roads.

Official Reactions

At a Wednesday press conference organized with the rights organization, Representative Goldman, a Democrat, said that four nationals were arrested by immigration for about 24 hours and that there were "no situations where US citizens should be detained for unjustly." He said the individuals were freed on Wednesday with no accusations made.

"The intent is obvious here. It is not focused on deporting lawbreakers," Goldman said. "This constitutes a militarized effort to create conflict. It is purely a excuse to provoke conflict for the government to bring in the armed forces to stop conflict that they initiated."

Broad Criticism

Outrage over the federal action rapidly grew – each of the NYC mayor hopefuls condemned the operation, including Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Repeatedly, the Trump administration chooses authoritarian theatrics that generate terror, not safety. It must stop," one mayoral candidate stated.

NYC immigrant rights groups expressed outrage also.

"ICE raided Chinatown in NYC with armored transports, hooded officers and protective equipment to target local sellers attempting to earn income. This raid had nothing to do with citizen protection and focused completely on intimidating residents and communities," stated the head of a major immigrant coalition.

Agency Rules

Official guidelines prohibits the arrest of American nationals and the organization has stated it will not take into custody US citizens. Nevertheless, investigative journalism has revealed that over 170 citizens have been taken illegally by immigration authorities since the start of the current administration.

Ongoing Trend

Enforcement actions have been cropping up increasingly in the state and around the country this year.

An October operation in midtown Manhattan was the earliest reported action on an refuge facility of the existing leadership. Protests against federal operations are widespread including accusations of aggression and cruel conditions.

Latest, a document submitted by civil rights groups claimed medical neglect of pregnant women in detention centers.
