President Trump Calls Families of Attacked Military Soldiers to White House
Former President Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He mentioned that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have occurred in their honor.
White House Invitation
The president explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump informed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Support
Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to support policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that educators hoped for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was kind, compassionate and always willing to assist people.”
Service details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Policy Adjustments
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the government to suspend asylum processing and halt issuing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor the governor said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she planned to speak to his relatives.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with distinction, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” the governor addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
