Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to change things and earn three points naturally but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with results this poor.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
