Supporters Urge Arrest of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are calling for that a person who breached a barrier and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A circulating footage depicts the individual from Australia pushing past photographers and rushing toward Grande while the cast walked down a yellow carpet accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being taken in", though legal records indicated that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Record of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram feed features videos of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney concert in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," stated an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user wrote.
Fans Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Many fans blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed dealing with PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote one more comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also faulted security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In footage circulating online, Grande appeared surprised when she was touched by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore mall, including several who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be released on 21 November, is the second of a two-part version of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two distinct characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen Oscar nominations, earning two for best costume and set decoration.
