Israelis have assembled around the country to commemorate two years since the Hamas-led assault on 7 October 2023, as talks proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The attack led to over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as captives. It was the most most lethal day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel responded by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are seen as reliable by the UN and other world agencies.

"The violent enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will never again pose a danger to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities rescheduled official memorials until mid-October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but events still occurred throughout the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas incident was held in the coastal city. Organized by the affected families, it was televised throughout Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was held around the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas representatives convened in the Egyptian tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of indirect talks to review the conditions of the plan.

A prominent Palestinian official involved in the talks indicated that an night meeting of indirect talks started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The representative explained the morning session ended without tangible results, amid conflicting views over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not resume fighting after the initial stage of the arrangement.

He noted that the talks are "difficult and have still not produce any real breakthrough," but mentioned that facilitators are making efforts to reduce the gaps between the both parties.

Key Matters in Negotiations

  • A lasting truce
  • The exchange of the hostages still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies deliveries
  • Post-war administration of the area

Citizen Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square that day, young Hagar - whose sibling lived through the incident on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were murdered and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - explained: "No location feels like home anymore and until all the hostages are released no one will have peace of mind."

"Once we see all home returned, we can breathe anew. Then we can commence rebuild," she continued.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people gathered to demonstrate their backing for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Activist a participant remarked: "We must do every compromise needed for the captives to return. But we sincerely need promises that we will be safe."

Research now frequently demonstrate that about 70% of Israeli citizens want the conflict to conclude in as payment for the liberation of the abducted.

Gaza Situation

At the area of the gathering, mourners gathered to pay their respects.

From there, the boom of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the intense Israeli shelling persisted.

In Gaza City, attacks were reported in the morning of that day in the western district, sector and locality districts and in the east side district of the community, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"As the night arrives, the dread appears with it," relocated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was died by an Israeli air strike previously, explained.

"My family are afraid of the bombings. All the night we are lying together, embracing, notably my youngest child who rests his face on me all night."

"Every second we check the reports to see developments. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the conflict will return to us."

Health Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area reported it had taken in the corpses of six people by the daytime, including three killed in an Israeli attack in the south part area.

Another medical facility in the southern city of Khan Younis reported another two fatalities had been transported. A person was lost his life by Israeli forces while attempting to get assistance to the south region, health workers stated.

The region's health ministry said 25 of the {territ
