The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
