The England national team will commence their Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, assuming they secure the expected passage for a championship staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not staged an Three Lions fixture since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to host the England side for their first match on June 10, 2028.

The team are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at the national stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their knockout stage opener would occur at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Kickoff and Rally

The tournament was unveiled at an gathering in central London on the previous evening. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were heckled as they approached the location by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged Israel’s national side to be kicked out from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Placards were displayed with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Fixture List

The first match of the European Championship will be held at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a match that will include the Dragons if they secure a place.

Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a kick-off time at late afternoon.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be used for Champions League finals from next season, will cater to families and help reach a broader range of audiences.

Host Nations

The Irish team are set to play their first game at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for the finals through that route.

Stadiums and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground finalize the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals staged at the national stadium of each host.

The qualification draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was removed as a host city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.
